It's odd that since I stopped actively trying to be intensely rational & logical about everything, I have become more intuitively reasonable

Well, no. I have intuitions which are clearly no good -eg abortion is wrong coz think of foetus as baby -but I do see the prob!
-
And obviously sometimes I'm just wrong but honestly wrong! Not pigheadedly wrong! I've made it work but a perception is wrong.
-
I don't know. Just thinking about thinking. Endlessly fascinated by the way people think.

Me too!

Me too I think! I think this commonly happens to people who routinely prove themselves wrong (commonly scientists).

@Intrinsic29 Maybe the best way to see it is not being able to endure cognitive dissonance but not always having it when you should? -
.
@Intrinsic29 And the aim is getting better at knowing when you should have it & being open to people pointing out why you should? -
And by 'you' I mean 'me.' Not making claims abt you!

Yeah, that seems to work. I think the way I envision intuition is as a tool. In chess, "keep your king safe" is an intuition.
@HPluckrose -
It's great for when I have other things to think about, but I should be ready to relinquish it if I have a great reason to.
@HPluckrose -
Like if I have a sound attack that involves exposing my king but I calculate there's no way for my opponent to exploit it.
@HPluckrose -
Hmm. Chess analogies might lose me. The exception that proves the rule?
