Anyone who doesn't want those things doesn't have to participate in them. Seems simple to me.

Sure but it becomes easier to let the label 'atheist' go if its gets mixed up with all sorts of other things you don't believe in.

James Lindsay has been writing abt this. Ppl making ideologically motivated moral communities or quasi-religions out of atheism.

People need to accept that once they take on a label, they're in a very big tent & it's up to them to differentiate themselves

Schisms, yes. You see David Silverman thing? Hectoring everyone to ID as atheist & have right values or they're pandering to faith

I don't think it is. Its just what tends to happen when you ascribe values & ideology to a label.

For some, the lack of a god inspires humanitarian work, in the Julia Sweeney if-there's-no-god-taking-care-of-ppl-WE-have-to way

Yes but belief in a god inspires this too. Why not share that common bond with religious ppl rather than seek an atheist ideology?

I don't see a prob there. There are many ways to get to same thing ~ don't see a prob w individs explaining *how* they got there

Then I'm not sure what our point is here. Atheism co-exists with other values shared by other people. No need for tribalism.

I don't see smaller groups of ppl expressing 'atheism-informed' values as negatively 'tribal' unless conformity is demanded.

No, it might hinder post-theism to keep referring to disbelief in gods as a causal factor but its not really tribal.
