I sometimes find it hard to distinguish between people who are cleverly deflecting & people with genuinely confused thinking.

I am hopelessly confused on many issues & entirely ignorant of many more and I appreciate ppl being patient & explaining them simply to me.

But I'm quite clear on the distinctions between people & ideas and between criticising things & banning them & it worries me that many arent

And it feels like some people genuinely aren't & then I really want to take time talking to them but others are just fucking me about.

Above all, I hate ppl who are skilled at making subtle distortions & seemingly 'logical' conclusions which actually miss the point entirely.

I'm not good at dealing with these people & let them draw me into arguing with them on their terms abt things which weren't the point.

So I greatly admire ppl who can spot the attempted deflection or distortion & point out the problem & restate the point or principle at hand

One indication: people who never move off a rock are often the ones desperately deflecting (in order to stay put on each rock).

It's a rare luxury to debate one who can quickly absorb and respond to a concise criticism of "non sequitur" or "red herring."
