But I think with things like freedom of speech, you have to think situationally. It simply can't exist everywhere.
Only if you don't think people's values are something a country has the right to judge in considering citizenship.

We could say we PUNISH potential immigrants for not being in danger coz we prioritise those who are.
-
That would not be about their opinions though. It would not be a violation of principle of free speech
-
It still isn't.We're not excluding them for what they say but what they might vote in, how they might live & affect others
-
Which may not be freedom of speech but it is about freedom of thought/belief/conscience
-
Which is related to freedom of speech
-
Not in the sense that I am upholding.I'm just fine with vetting ppl to avoid increasing the religious right in a democracy
-
because of the consequences to gender equality, LGBT equality, freedom of speech, reproductive freedom etc.
-
Those things MUST be protected but I wouldn't vet,I would just limit no. of immigrants let in so those things weren't threatened

Do any western countries currently have such an ideological test for citizenship. Doesn't UK already have Islamists as citizens
-
Yes, also rapists & murderers. We apply a different selection for people wanting to join us.
-
Rapists and murders are criminals though. Islamists are repugnant human beings but presumable not criminals
-
But the comparison is a logical one. Is it OK to ban people from the country if ppl in the country are what we'd ban. Yes.
-
But you can't ban Islamists existence in a free country
-
No but I'd support not letting them in in the first place to an extent where they'd become a majority.
-
For that reason, I support including this in the vetting of people wanting to emigrate here.
