But note, I don't support freedom of speech everywhere, anyway. It wld make workplaces & schools hell.
But I think with things like freedom of speech, you have to think situationally. It simply can't exist everywhere.

Or you'd have ppl discussing torture porn in primary schools, basket-weaving at medical conventions, no work getting done.
-
My concern is just making sure RELEVANT(environment appropriate) views are not being censored/punished

Exactly. So if we try to apply freedom of speech principles to things which have many other factors, doesn't work.
-
I wouldn't regard talking about 'basket-weaving at medical conventions' as a free speech issue though
-
It was one that was brought up to justify no-platforming certain feminists. U wldn't have non-scientists speak at sci conf
-
I agree, the only related free speech issue with a science conf. would be no-platforming a scientist due to offensive theories
-
Yes. Ppl try to apply it where the actual issue is something else. Here relevance not offence.

Agreed but I believe it should only be limited when absolutely necessary

Private companies can say 'We talk abt this in this way here" & we can decide whether that's reasonable. Usually it is.
-
It's when its not - when its a public place or a place for discussion of ideas generally that we complain.
