"Prostitution would not exist in a world where females&males have equal salaries, access to education, jobs, &legal rights to autonomy." Hmm

I realise that poverty, lack of opportunity & psychological coercion (as well as physical, obv) can make 'choice' redundant re: sex-work.

But then the problems are poverty, lack of opportunity & coercion rather than sex-work which will probably always exist.

Because people will always want sex & other people will always choose to supply that demand.

I've known four sex-workers & none of them were poor. They're almost certainly an exception to the rule but this shows its not going away.

One 'struggling' (middle-class) gay male writer chose to earn a living that way to have more time to write. One straight male actor too.

One student putting herself through college & a friend who just wanted to party & said to me 'It's just so easy! 5 minutes & £30!'

So even tho I get behind concerns abt poverty & grooming & lack of opportunity, I don't think sex-work inherently exploitative or going away

Capitalism, I think. Explanations are vague. My requests for it met with 'Prostitution is slavery. Capitalism is exploitation'

Yeah, that quote is proven by the fact there are no male prostitutes...

Let's forget the fact that many sex workers do their jobs because they like it and it interests them personally...

My guess is a significant amount of the push back against sex work is by people who hate sex for whatever reasons.

It always seems presupposed that meaningless sex is just intrinsically harmful.

.@meinherr @HPluckrose Ya, sexual experience is, in some ways, the most profound scope of experience we ever have. Seems a noble profession.

.@meinherr @HPluckrose That's not to say there aren't exploitation and other problems in the field as well, but we can fight those too.

.@meinherr @HPluckrose Just legalizing and regulating prostitution it in general would make it a hell of a lot easier.

If complete sexual autonomy existed, prostitution would be ignored as unremarkable legal use personal possessions.
