Brits! Do not allow the wonderful British 'arse' with all its potential for contempt & derision to become a mediocre American 'ass.'

Some wonderful words have come from American English - hornswoggle is my favourite - but 'asshole' sounds like a sneeze. No power in it.

I genuinely had to have a conversation with my daughter abt this. She watches a lot of American gaming stuff & speaks of 'ass-kicking.'

Bizarre conversation in which I explained that the British word is 'arse' so she should say that but also she shouldn't coz its rude.

I now happen to know that she says 'ass' to her gaming friends but 'bottom' to me. Well, that didn't work.
