'Slut' is a more personal insult like 'faggot' or even possibly 'paki' so it is more potentially hurtful.

First determine child knows what word means & why it might be hurtful. Still don't hugely overreact.

Point (8) is important. In my boys school (many years ago) "gay" was a common insult - it had nothing to do with homosexuality.
