I'm concerned by how many people are saying discussion between the right & left is pointless. Whats the alternative? Civil war?

I would rather see the left putting the focus on our own ideas/candidates and promoting why they’re better.

Absolutely. We need to reach out to reasonable left and right - centre-left & right - & push out extremists.

reasonable, yes. There is an enormous section of the right, however, that is blatantly, proudly, unreasonable.

And on the left! I still think the middle is much larger tho.

yes, but I think the people you were referring to above are talking about debating the unreasonable right.

I really don't think so. Getting so tribal. Lefties are all SJWs and Righties are all racists. Very worrying.

but the point is the more we attack, the more we push reasonable moderates into the extremes.

That is true, yes. Why I am saying the reasonable centre needs to unite & stop generalising other side with the worst

The alternative is that the country splits in half. Or it collapses. The two sides cannot live together.

They have to. Both are needed. The moderates must ally and form a strong centre against the extremes.

Can we not be defeatist? Being realistic is always good but defeatism is counter-productive. Trying to fix things is better than not trying.
