@SwiftOnSecurity ??? I genuinely don't know what he means.
That its relevant to living ppl. What else shld need it be relevant to be relevant?

-
Its relevant to living people til they too die
-
Yes. This seems rather like stating the obvious. Things are always relevant till they aren't.
-
One can't help but wonder "what does it all matter really? After 80 years I'll be dead"
-
I think we can. Things mattering is not intrinsically linked to how long they matter for. Things end.
-
We don't think "what does it matter where I work. retire in 40 years" What I eat. It'll be gone in 20 mins"
-
Because as long as you are alive it did matter, it gives you pleasant memories & contributes to overall happiness
-
Exactly. Life is like that.
-
Makes me realize this is hard to articulate. Will think of how to better explain it from my view

One's life can indeed be "good", but they are no longer around to experience what "good" means
-
Of course & we might have trouble accepting this.
@GodDoesnt's new book addresses psychological need for immortality narratives -
Perhaps he is addressing ppl still trying to come to terms with the fact that we end.
-
But many ppl do accept that we end & there's no reason why things shld become less meaningful if they end.

I don't agree that life becomes less meaningful coz it ends. I think that makes me value it more. 1/2

Speaking as someone who once thought I had an immortal soul. Realising I didn't made me value life more.
