If 'respect' for a view or person can mean 'admire & endorse for own qualities' & 'strongly oppose but politely,' perhaps we shldn't use it

Either this is the view that the wrongness or rightness of ideas should have no impact on how we esteem/admire them or its incoherent.

Indeed, it's strongly reminiscent of pomo relativism. One should respect the person, not ideas. Especially wrong ones. :D

it's good English - if I have to state I respect X means I utterly or substantially disagree with X, the "but" is silent
