Sounds like punishing a group for sins of another. Would murder be reduced and manslaughter increased? @HPluckrose

I'd say 'yes, those consequences need to be paid for" but find it hard to justify other than intuitively.

That's a better example. Instinctively I want to say outcome matters, death deserves stiffer penalty.

Me too. Justice demands appropriate 'payment' for what you have taken from someone else. But is that reasonable?
