Yes. If I see a statement about me as motivated by sexism but speaker says it was not related to gender at all, he's the authority on this. https://twitter.com/DerekActual/status/792715797248417792 …
Not suggesting it is. Still need to address what ppl actually say rather than our perception of their motivations.

as long as they can plausibly deny, that mentality allows them to continue winking in safety. Not saying everyone does this.
-
If an accusation can be plausibly denied based on what was actually said, we shld not try to mind-read & claim to know better.
-
not claiming it's always best to assume, but maybe not best to give a free pass. In this case, for an argument, ask for reason
-
Yes, always ask what was meant.
-
if they didn't mean it, they will have a different reason. Some people that do mean it will have an "excuse" sometimes though.
-
Yes. I'm actually racist but criticise Islam as an excuse. I'm actually a misogynist but use criticism of feminism as an excuse.
-
In fact, if u look honestly at everything I have said &done & advocated, you'll see what my motivations are. No mind-reading needed
-
My point is that ppl (by which I mean *my* ppl - liberals) need to be charitable & not mind-read according to agendas.

I think many perps are aware of what other people consider racism, etc even if they don't think so. Very easy to take advantage
-
What's the alternative? If I know someone has been sexist before, shld I assume any criticism of me is motivated by sexism?
