Apparently, 'Because I don't enjoy your company' is not an acceptable answer to 'Why haven't we seen you for so long?"

I did temper it with 'you wouldn't enjoy mine if I spoke about anything that interested me & I really want to do that sometimes." Still no.

I don't like feeling obligated to 'make conversation.' If conversation doesn't happen naturally, its prob best to go talk to someone else.

Many see conversation as compromise. Talk abt what interests u. Then what interests them.OK re: family whom you love but have diff interests

But in broader social situations? Why meet up with ppl to take it in turns to talk abt things only the individual is interested in?

It suggests that being around ppl is the purpose rather than the conversation. Fair enough if everyone's happy. I'm not & that's OK too.

Might be a female thing? "We shld all meet up for tea as we have kids at same school. Then keep doing that even if we've nothing in common."

No. Don't want to do clusters. Wld rather make a solid friendship with the one I click with & then see her w/out every1 else taking offence.

I see making female friends as similar to dating. With most you meet up 1 or a few times & then stop but a few you want in your life forever

But so many ppl are hurt or offended by this. It can be difficult to explain that you think they're all good ppl but nothing in common.

And in fact, you usually don't get the chance anyway. Ppl just stop talking to you. Only recently I've realised this doesn't matter much.

Am I now guilty of making a 'women are made to feel' argument of which I am so critical? XD Hopefully not. I don't demand society changes.

I do think women are under more pressure to join homosocial clusters & attend regularly. But easy to resist if you have a few good friends.

And I think women are more likely to form committed social groups because so many like them rather than any sexist external pressures.
