The idea is that we must avoid insistence on permanence & universals in favor of plurality, change & particulars.
Other aims to make society work have been pragmatic & effective but included things like slavery & patriarchy so can't support

But I see that things needing to work for everybody is central to ur pragmatism even if u don't consider this a principle.

A solution that imposes unacceptable costs on or extracts unacceptable rent from others will fail the tests of time & experience

I hope the liberal, pluralistic, secular ideal works coz I think its best for everyone but WEIRD societies are new.

Our individualism & lack of unity might destroy us.Its a bit of an experiment.

Though some conservatives will tell us we're reproducing the humanism & decadence that destroyed Rome. Not sure it did.

They didn't? Some pretty successful empires? Liberalism - accepting pluralism - might work better but its new so can't compare

Yes, liberalism was invented because of the many failures of those past empires & states. And liberalism will be surpassed also.
