Abandoning principles for pragmatism and movements for problem-solving...still some of the toughest tricks for our primate minds.

The idea is that we must avoid insistence on permanence & universals in favor of plurality, change & particulars.

Is that not a principle? Semantic issue, maybe? Seems in keeping with universal liberalism.

As long as we understand universal liberalism as invented, as a social & ethical 'technology' rather than THE answer.

So who wants to form a tribe based on anti-tribalism & focus on classically liberal principles applied consistently &accepting disagreement?

Is it that we are advocating roughly the same thing but I describe this as a principle & you as abandoning them?

In this sense, ppl wld be agreeing coz it works for everyone even tho the principles they live by might be different.

"Works for everyone" = pragmatic but you'd still have to have principles of equality & freedom to make the aim "for everyone"

Other aims to make society work have been pragmatic & effective but included things like slavery & patriarchy so can't support

But I see that things needing to work for everybody is central to ur pragmatism even if u don't consider this a principle.
