I'm really trying to stay motivated on this French course but so much of it is irrelevant to what I want it for. Reading Anglo-Norman MSs.

I think it was a mistake & I'm not sure I'm willing to do the next section on trains, buses and buying tickets for them. Je quitte.

I see your point. Any more of this and you might end up inadvertently speaking to French people 😉

Quelle horreur! MDR. Mais tu as raison. Le français moderne est utile aussi. Je dois endurer l'ennui. Je voudrais un carnet, SVP

Many of the jobs I'm looking at in academic publishing ask for people with French. Also, many important manuscripts in France.

Don't the British just speak English, assuming that everyone else does? And the French then pretend to not understand?

I'm very reluctant to do that, yes! Unreasonable expectation. Shouting in English is the correct way to talk to a French person.

Obv, sometimes a publishers might have to communicate w a Frenchie in writing but then you just use large font.No need to go mad

Also seems a little too into rigid gender roles for my liking! Which is beside the point, of course.

.@HPluckrose I firmly believe we need a revolution in education where things are taught as solutions to problems rather than just problems.

the problem is with relevance. I solved this by finding topics that interest me. Find French newspapers and magazines online.

Yes, was thinking of ditching the course & teaching myself but its been pointed out that workaday French is useful too.
