I disagree w ppl who say national pride abt superiority. I can be proud of my nation whilst acknowledging other cultures better in some ways

You know how in the best books & films, we love many characters who are defined by different strengths & weaknesses?I see cultures like that

We don't think that if we love Hermione, we must think her better than Ron or Harry? We can love them all for their distinct characteristics

Their flaws are part of their charm.This is how I love England. Its deeply flawed. I love it anyway & I admire other cultures' qualities too

This doesn't mean I think all cultures are equal or that its morally good to think they are. Some simply aren't. They deny human rights.

I'll openly say that a culture which gives women, LGBTs & dissident thinkers of any kind equality & freedom is superior to one that doesn't.

But this is an ethical issue. Of benign or neutral cultural differences, I can be an appreciator who does not think in terms of superiority.

I'll joke abt Brits being superior to eg the French but actually I love Britishness & Frenchness & love it most when they joke back.
