Simplistic observations of a 12 yr old of other 12 yr olds but find this age interesting coz its b4 they've learnt much control of bad bits

Maybe our species is most itself when we're children. Before we truly understand how to modify behaviours for the sake of others.

Generalisations are a problem. Essentialist understandings of gender are too. But so is claiming no differences to exist on average.

I don't claim to know how much gender difference is to do with social expectations & how much is innate but I question ppl who say all of 1.

At the moment, the orthodox position is that gender difference is entirely a cultural construct & I think that needs challenging. 1/2

When first approached by a girl, interested in him, his automatic response was to take the piss (gently) like he does with males

.@Si_Copath I do think communication differences exist & its not the job of one sex to conform to the other. Accepting difference would help

.@Si_Copath History is full of scathing attacks on women's speech - too much, too emotional, not to the point - now we have 'mansplaining.'

.@Si_Copath Why evolutionary psychology cld be so helpful to humanities & social sciences. Different types of communication have purposes.

Definitely. We all have to learn to deal with other people. There are gender differences but we don't all conform.

.@Si_Copath I think its important to defend not conforming to gender norms w/out claiming they're all constructed or that ppl who do are bad

Recognising that gender norms exist not being the same as wishing to enforce them is a point that misses many.

Just more difficult for a 12 year old to realise that which is why parents have to help a little.
