You realise the puritans who fled Europe were being persected by reformed Christianity? I think it wld have happened anyway.

The Catholic Church was already reforming itself & secularism exists in countries which have always been predominantly Catholic.

No. That's when they started to get better. Christianity is much better now. Point was that wasn't always the case.
