If we say that ppl can believe what they want but not inflict those beliefs on anyone else, its the inflicting not the beliefs we prosecute.

it's bit more complex when the religious belief system includes explicit instruction to inflict the beliefs on others (many do)

thankfully many modern religious practitioners ignore encouragement/requirements to spread or preach their faith if unsolicited

agree. Religion can be seen as a higher law than government, making religious belief a unique factor in motivating crime
