I made the mistake of citing research from linguistics on sound patterns in languages to argue that ‘musicality’ in literary language was prized across cultures - in a theory subject. I learnt not to do it again after a poor grade. Just told them what they wanted to hear.

I was mainly in it for the languages (Latin, Greek, bit of Anglo-Saxon) to be fair. I’d do all the reading for the compulsory theory subjects, get drunk, then write the papers. I handed in some prize manure but it got me straight As so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
