Trans people can't and #WontBeErased by attempts to define them out of existence. Presidents, however, can have that label removed. You'll need to vote, reasonable & compassionate Americans.

I understand the US government is going about defining man and woman based on a framework of biological sex. What alternatives should be used to not ‘erase' trans people that are coherent, material, objective and useful in law?

Sex is about biology. Gender is about psychological identity, behaviour and the "role" a person plays in interpersonal relationships.

So, how can I recognise a gender? How can I enumerate them? For example, "Manchester United supporter” is an identity and informs how I relate to others. Is it an ‘gender’?

No. Male or female or gender neutral are genders. And they denote the psychological identity, behaviour and social role the person plays. Gender usually lines up with sex, but not always.

Male and female are reproductive sex class descriptors. Facebook says it has 71 one of them. Again, how I can I recognise a gender and how can I enumerate them. These are important questions. Is Facebook correct? Is this the correct number?

Again, you're confusing gender and sex. I think you need to go do some reading.

I have done the reading. And my conclusion is that people who speak lots about gender cannot define what a gender is coherently. No idea how to recognise one or enumerate them. Without sexist ideas, at least. Am I correct?

Reality is sexist, I'm afraid. Men and women are not psychologically and cognitively identical.

Nope. Reality is not sexist. Our projections onto it can be sexist.
