Course. It's not done in many urban human cultures to greet passersby. That's intrusive & weird. Its absolutely done in all dog cultures everywhere. This is interspecies cultural sensitivity.https://twitter.com/jbouie/status/1054541534195007488 …

I thought it was normal to talk to the dog and disregard the human. The dog is usually better company.

I meet plenty of new friends walking my dog around through the neighborhood . The humans are mostly white, some not. I know all of the dogs’ names, and none of the humans’. It just never comes up.

I do this to white people CONSTANTLY. Almost every day. It's not because you're non-white, it's because you're human.

One problem with hyper-subjectivist, only-the-person-who-experiences-it-can-say-if-it's-racist culture: POC interprets perfectly innocuous behavior as racist; white person points out that the same happens to them constantly: white person is "gaslighting." Happens all the time.

Replies are mostly solidarity with the experience of being ignored by dog doters. But you aren’t allowed to disagree with the premise that it has a basis in racism. That is whiteness in action. Unless you apologize on behalf of white people or nod in agreement, you are judged.

this is so ridiculous, I watch the dog(s) to ensure I'm not ATTACKED as has happened to me on MULTIPLE occasions during the course of my frequent hikes. owners often don't even bother with a leash irregardless of whether they are violating the law. #CryMeARiver
