Oh great. We're going to have a war over poppies now, are we? Of course we are. This is what we do now.https://twitter.com/JohnnyMercerUK/status/1054471560986267648 …

White poppies are attention seeking rubbish. Ignore the wearers of them. If you don’t want to wear a poppy don’t bother; they fought and died so you could choose. But don’t deliberately try and hijack it’s symbolism for your own ends. Well done @BrianWoodMC https://twitter.com/BrianWoodMC/status/1054370602935554048 …

And no, it seems very unlikely that the fallen in the WWs did so so people could squabble over poppy colour on Twitter in the next century. I can guarantee not a single soldier's dying thought was "Now @BigBolloxFuckface195 will be able to yell at people on the internet."

I will be wearing a red poppy in case anyone cares but I do wish we hadn't found another thing to polarise around. I shall greet white poppy wearers with equanimity.

Well as the man said, they died so we can choose, so when people choose to wear a white one surely it honors them just as much as a red one.

They didn't die so we could make choices poppies. They were trying to stop the Nazis.

Yeah I know that lol, I was using his reasoning, if he thinks they died so we can choose then why does he have a problem with people choosing something different to him.

I think I understand why such people feel angry. It is because for >60 years the red poppy has been a symbol, but for the sake of PC another colour was introduced to symbolise "all victims of war". They think it reduces the symbolism of respect for fallen soldiers. I can get that

I see it too. I just wish we didn't have to polarise around this and, tbh, it's the white poppies which have done this.

The white poppies are just following the coloured, striped and other ribbons. Cynically I thought I could make a calendar app of what ribbon to wear on what day and links to the ribbon vendors - but being lazy (can't claim kind), I did not do that. Compassion fatigue sets in...

I prefer the pink ones grown in Tasmania. I hope this doesn’t mean I’m a centrist.
