I find it interesting when people exhort others to vote on Twitter. It suggests they think their followers will have the same politics as them. My followers are so mixed that I think I'd need to encourage some of them to vote & some to stay home to advance my goals!

When reasonable people don't vote, then extremists usually win. Even if someone votes differently than I do, if they are reasonable, then more money and support will go towards candidates who don't appeal to the whack jobs.

Fostering voter participation is good for democracy, even if they don't vote the way you want.

An engaged electorate seems to me more healthy than an apathetic one, but, in the US anyway, it's hard not to feel jaded by the horse race system of "democracy" - give me approval voting and some nuanced political platforms and it would go a long way toward engagement.

Also americans need to strenghten their third parties, as well as found more parties.

I think the two issues are related. The big two parties have such a stranglehold on the system that without approval voting you're basically just wasting a vote on a third party in any national election and most state elections (with a few exceptions).

Trump debacle aside, if you ratify the donkey or the elephant you are throwing your vote away anyways.

There are only so many options to choose from, when all of them are bad you pick the least bad one and hope for the best.

Voting is worth promoting, in itself.

Not me... I assume a variety of perspectives and strongly believe all voices deserve to be heard. You couldn't call it democratic otherwise.

It's certainly good for all persuasions. But given that voter suppression and gerrymandering are targeted towards Democrats, encouraging voting to overcome barriers across the board will probably have an impact on democratic voters as those are where the barriers are.

I'd bet you're a serious outlier on this. Your most prominent work includes calling out your own side, and the other side loves you for it. The vast majority of us are in echo chambers that bash and mock the other side.

I should exhort those in the Twitterverse to NOT vote since I'm fairly certain 97% don't share my worldview. But if they do share it, then they won't vote anyway.

This. Obviously more people should vote. But those being most aggressive about rallying voters likely assume everyone will vote just like them. And it’s mostly left leaning accounts/people who I see doing this. Go team!
