I think the brain's powerful pattern-recognition software is tripped rather violently by salient errors (even if irrelevant). I also believe that a "sense of humour" is based around error correction reward systems.

If you reveal the paucity of technical precision or meta theory underlying their research areas then you are a "pedant". It's labelling you in an attempt to shut you up because you have endangered research funding and those with untenured positions.

I joined twitter some years ago and my profile hasn’t changed. I confess I suffer from “rightitis”, but that I’m willing to listen. It took a while to learn to do the listen part well & I acknowledge there’s still room for improvement.
