No, a better analogy would be if you took something self-evidently absurd, like the amount of farts contributing to total GDP, and if you dressed it up in all the right neoclassical equations to get it accepted. That would discredit the journal and neoclassical economics.

Because it demonstrates that the kind of articles they publish are likely bullshit because they've lost sight of any grasping towards truth, and it is simply a procedural matter of arranging language and symbols in the right way.

But I suppose a postmodernist doesn't think there's any difference between reality and the arrangement of symbols anyway. So there is no "discrediting" possible right? I mean if that's the case why don't we abandon academics and just play minecraft?

There is nothing non objective about symbolic structures, language is like quite material, working with it is work. it's code. you know something about code right? This is why I keep saying without working with "the Text" with texts it's all a just phantasms.

I think what this comes down to is an old theological split between the interpretive tradition and and the fundamentalist tradition. I the former the Text is open, but require constant maintenance, reviewal, commentary and expansion in the other the text just manifest.

It's telling that the right doesn't really have very concrete ideas about what they want to replace humanities departments with. Often they (including the authors of the dog park paper and Jordan person), just call for them to shut down.

Helen Pluckrose just sent a tweet the other day opposing calls from the right for gender studies to be shut down. But yes, you're right they don't have a replacement. But it is humanities depts which are primarily responsible for the quality and relevance of their own work.

Lyndsey seem to consider a shut down in Vox article, when I pointed this out to Helen she basically said their on the same page. (post-structuralism should be confined to extracurricular reeding groups and blogging)https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/1053273108369604608 …

We don't call to shut it down. Bad ideas are not beaten by being banned. They are beaten by losing credibility and becoming marginalised. This is how universities stopped using Christianity as an epistemology. See my timeline today. Also, not right-wing.

I get that you don't want to get lumped in with the "cultural marxism" crowd, you feel like you did the work and get it, and certainly you will have you allies among the MLs, but when you insist on vague terms like "postmodernism" and "grievance studies" you might as well be JBP.

We haven't been remotely vague. We've set out the problems we see and demonstrated them. It is up to you whether to read that or not.

I admittedly haven't gotten much further than muh reason, consistency and evidence itself a bit vague but "grievance" studies absolutely plays to a very aggrieved crowed with all the necessary vagaries for their cathartic projections.

Presumably in some book your have taken apart the epistemology and epistemology critiques of the (post)structuralism, psychoanalysis the Frankfurt school and marxist sociology more broadly, which underpin what you obscure and write of as "postmodern grievance studies"..

So, about the paper, the dog park is essentially an exemplary case of a "Heterotopia", one of Foucault early concepts which became extremely productive for theory starting in the 90's. This is the tradition/trend the journal seems to have been established in.
