Hmm. I think Abby was a little insensitive. However, I don't think it is a betrayal of anything to give your child a name from the culture of the country you live in. You might quite like that too as you moved there. This should be a morally neutral choice.https://twitter.com/SikhProf/status/1052259740712140801 …

Dear Twitter, A famous advice columnist is telling people to whitewash their kid's names if they want to be accepted. How should I tell her that's wrong and racist? Simran Jeet Singh pic.twitter.com/URNbMT5LZ7

I would rather be named Ratikha than be saddled with Khaleesi for life.

Giving your kid a bad name is pretty messed up. The post refers to someone trying to name their kid a name from a culture of a country they do not live in. I mean, cool if you like a name, but you should consider your child's mental health growing up being teased or mispronounced

I agree. Being proud and practical are two different things especially when saddling your kids with something that may mercilessly follow them. And unfortunately, it has real world ramifications in their future career opportunities.

Even Richard Face, and Harry Balz were poor choices. I could list hundreds but you get the point.

Ah yes. @DweezilZappa will surely agree that you shouldn't lumber a child with a strange name.

Many of my ancestors did the same over time (more common "American" names per generation). These days it doesn't matter as far as I can tell. My name doesn't match my surname, nor do the names of my siblings, wife, or my own kids. Are we victims now?

My first name is unpronounceable for people who are not of my (original) nationality. While it's funny to let people try and laugh, for daily use you simply settle for a name that is close enough to the one you have... well if that's possible.

It assumes American culture is inferior .. as does grievance studies.
