Demonstrating that there is in fact a problem in such a way that it seems factual and persuasive is a pretty good step, imo. Which you've definitely contributed to.

If people didn't already know this was an issue it's likely because they don't have any interactions with the university system. They may not be able to do much about it anyway.
-
I don't accept the basic premise inherent in this that having a lot of interaction with the university system necessarily means you understand/understood this. Nor that the general public knowing affects nothing.
-
You don't have to and we could waste a lot of time arguing about it, but I'm curious: if governments aren't allowed to get involved at any capacity, how is increasing public awareness going to help anything?
-
I would if I had to buy into what you said. It depends on the specifics. For one thing it could reduce the willingness to listen to the results of such research. It could reduce the chance politicians will listen to it. It could reduce people being willing to fund such research..
-
And that's only the general public. People who are part of universities could do much more. And people who are part of the field, if they acknowledge the problems it has, can perhaps do the most of all of them by actually reforming it. Also, I actually DIDNT say that...
-
government could never in any capacity be involved.

I think pointing out the problem is fixing the problem. Also advocating for more rigorous studies or peer review is helping. Now it’s on the field or NIH, NSF and alike to fix it.

Changed my outlook, voted differently, stopped giving money to people who misuse it. As much as I can from a non-Phd standpoint. That's why it's so frustrating to see people who are actually in the system be so coy about it.
