😊 Hang on! 😐 Are you a southerner? 🤔"Bless you" sounds lovely but I have now been informed by a native what it actually means when a southerner says "Bless you" or "Bless your heart." 🤨https://twitter.com/AmericanObserv6/status/1052577255111741440 …

Yep. Agreed. And it depends on who says it. Some people are sincere.

Ha! Yes ma’am I am a southerner. And although I am familiar with various meanings of the expression, I mean the phrase with sincerity and affection for your new found liking of coffee. Maybe the world would get along better if everyone conversed over a cup now and then.

“Bless your heart” has to have the whole phrase. “Bless you” is more of a general thankfulness that you exist, IMO...

Its funny you mention this now! 😁 2 Chainz has just opened the first hip-hop haunted 👻'trap house' in Atlanta for #Halloween🎃🧙‍♀️... and here at their opening party, you can see the popular banners the rude Footie Mob (Atlanta soccer fans) use to taunt their yankee opponents:pic.twitter.com/EEADl84FE9

Bless you is usually safe. Bless your heart is an insult 99% of the time.

"You poor sap" is only one meaning of "bless your heart." There are many positive ones too.
