They shouldn't be but they are, Universities are heavily politically biased and entirely in a single direction. How are you going to restore universities to being ideologically diverse marketplaces of ideas when there's no incentive to do so?

Well, we spent a year undercover in the worst-hit departments to show the problem and make more people aware of them and put pressure on the universities to sort their act out. Next, we will make a forum for academics who disagree with this but are afraid to speak out. You?

I appreciate your efforts but I don't think anything will happen unless there are actual consequences for these universities, they benefit heavily from the current system why would they change it? There's nothing I can personally do except petition the government to intervene.

OK, but normalising governmental control over education bears the same problem as normalising it over freedom of speech. It's all great until the government doesn't agree with you.

Government shouldn't fund education at all then and it should be up to the market to decide what courses are worth it, I don't think many of these courses would survive without tax funding.
