So if we get evidence to play a larger role in society, eventually the Universities will change their tune according to that. Something like that? Because that seems credible to me, I don't think there's an easy quick-fix to this without doing a lot of damage.

Yes, and quite fast too. Look how much things have changed in universities in fields which study gender, race and sexuality since the 50s.
