We were fairly sure that we could both get awful stuff in & that when we showed people we had, they would see it as such. The problem is not that society as a whole buys into postmodern epistemology & ethics. It's that it doesn't necessarily see it happening or understand it.

Most people who value scholarship at all have confidence in universities to ensure rigorous knowledge production. Most liberals think any discipline which studies social justice must be doing good work or fear that by pointing out that it is not good, they undermine social justice

We need to point out problems in epistemology & ethics in certain academic approaches to social justice because, tho, small, they have profound influence on a society which cares about social justice. We need to do this properly & not be afraid to say it isn't being done properly

I don’t favour “evidenced based epistemology”. Whilst appealing to reason, it’s a licence for legalistic bullying - “I’ve assembled a bigger file of factoids than you, so what you think doesn’t matter”. You could collate 100 factoids that say my dog is a cat, but he’s a dog, ok?

As a physicist, I thought you'd understand the value of knowledge and facts. Having a bigger or smaller file matters not. What matters is what is true, and both reproducible and verifiable by others. e.g. Saying you feel the sun is magical doesn't trump the fact that it's a star.

Unless I misunderstand your meaning. In which case, sorry. :)

I’m no longer convinced we can say “most people” here. We have good reasons to suspect that nearly 1/3 of American voters are unreachable authoritarian followers—more than sociology tells us. There could be as many on the left, but it’s harder to measure without a leader to vote.
