When I first heard about women's studies I assumed it was about reclaiming women's history that had been untold, which would be entirely legitimate, as would what you lay out. There is nothing inherently wrong with studying gender or females specifically its the particular

Agreed, but I'm not sure why that requires a separate dept. Study of women's history takes place in history depts. Sociology studies matters related to women in the workforce, etc.

I'd like to study gender specifically and from a range of perspectives, biological, psychological and sociological. All together so no-one comes away with just the bits that suit their biases. This is usually why a subject is studied separately.

Your topic seems to fit *social* psychology well. Social psychologists study how psychology shapes and is shaped by social relations. Some publish in sociology journals. Other people in psych depts study physiological foundations. IMHO, a psych dept would be a good place for you.

I'm not an expert, but it seems like what you want to study would fall neatly within the discipline of social psychology. Not sure why a separate gender studies dept would be necessary.

Gender studies isn’t a rigorous discipline on purpose. Its practitioners will resist anything that resembles actual work. Anyone threatening to change that state of affairs would find themselves purged in the old Maoist manner.
