Autocorrect is not on our side. And by "our side" I mean organic life.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/1052127713203560448 …

My phone's autocorrect rejects epistemological relativism. It refuses to accept that "knowledges" are a thing but corrects to "knowledge."

Do you guys reject the notion of epistemological relativism altogether, or only in regards to scientific enquiry? The reason I ask is that different cultures solve certain problems by understanding them differently. It may be unscientific but it’s often ingenious and pragmatic.

But then there is still a truth there. It could be true that it is beneficial to believe something that is not true. I think it was Joe Rogan who argued this in relation to the belief that porcupines can throw their quills. But the claim that they can remains untrue.

I think Joe Rogan said that he had never heard that before, and made fun of Bret for the example. But my memory may be faulty.

Ah! I saw him raise it to Jordan Peterson but possibly he took it from somewhere else? From Bret?

Yes. Metaphorical truth is my concept. The porcupine example is also mine, lame as it may be. The belief that you will go to a magical utopia in the sky if you treat people well might be better.

Porcupines are better. They don't raise instinctive resistance!

Both were mentioned there. I had taken the truth conflict to be over the use of "truth" to mean "correct" vs to mean "certain". Where Jordan was failing to communicate to Sam a view in which it's incorrect to be certain. But don't listen to me... I don't know jack.
