About to listen to people arguing about decolonising society. I shall keep you all posted.

.@buffsoldier_96 worries that this conversation often devolves into declarations of ownership of history. "Black history is western history"

Two audience members are shouting at each other. One asserting there is no need for her to feel white guilt because she has never oppressed anyone. The other saying "I'm not asking you to feel guilty. I'm asking you to stop doing it." "Hmmm.

Interesting. The woman saying 'stop doing it" says she speaks English and is Christian because of colonialism. This is true but I am interested in how the Christianity works. She said "I am Christian" suggesting she is still a believer. This must cause cognitive dissonance.

Are all these panels being recorded? (I ask that question a lot, don’t I?)

Pretending "black history" is somehow separate from Western history only erases the contributions black people made to our shared culture.

It also requires you to know absolutely nothing about history.

I don't have context, but this on its face says nothing about "ownership" and everything about inclusion. In the US, "black" history isn't separable from the history of our nation. Without including it, history is both distorted and dishonest.

And that is just what has been accomplished in the past. It's only recently that descriptions of our Civil War note the (obvious to the contenting parties) fact that it was about slavery, not "states rights", and that opposition to Reconstruction was largely terrorism.

I so hate these useless, ridiculous terms like "unlearning western history" and "decolonizing history/society". Stupid, trivial buzzwords. Whoever uses terms like these in an unironic way can't and shouldn't be taken serious. Said person should be run out of town with pitchforks.
