You might have read Sokal & Bricmont's book but you haven't understood it if you don't see that they were right. Do you see why saying the above doesn't work and just shuts down conversation? People can understand things and still disagree with their worth.https://twitter.com/johndavidebert/status/1051209172220489728 …

What I'm aware of is that Sokal and Bricmont's book tried to say that the likes of Paul Virilio, Gilles Deleuze and others are "fashionable nonsense." That simply isn't correct. They just didn't work to understand the concepts and ideas.

If you have to “work” to understand something which isn’t intrinsically hard to explain, (like quantum physics) then it’s poorly written and it’s fair to conclude it was deliberately obfuscated to conceal the fact that it’s nonsense.

As another reply in that thread pointed out, these people base their thinking in the premise that "meaning" is an instrument of power and not based on a shared reality. Therefore it's safe to assume that anything they say is in bad faith, in the pursuit of power.

You know I’m sure I’ve heard the same thing come from Christian pastors talking about Dawkins and co. It was bullshit then too.

I completely agree with him. People who don't get it just haven't done the work. What we need is some sort of work...camp... where it can be assigned until re-education is complete...

Yes, I read the four canonical Gospels a few years ago and acquired a considerably better understanding of them, but this didn't lead me to agree with them. In fact it gave me a better understanding of why not to agree with them.

I do not believe that. I'm trying to delineate randomness from knowledge and I wanted to know your assessment in this specific instance. Also I forgot the point of this question since this morning (sorry) so feel free to stop this thread here if you think it's not worth the time

You see this a lot in politics today. Where media class (& the political class maintaining the delusion) keep arguing that polititions aren't getting their message across/need 2 try different tactics. When message has been received, loud and clear, the populous just call bullshit

That would be for matters that are not yet decidedly fact wouldn't it? Like if someone said they read a math problem and disagree with the correct answer, they didn't understand it. Perhaps that's how they see this. They believe it is so perfect, to understand is to agree.
