I haven't been following closely, but the truly disturbing thing seems to be to be that this person has a PhD but apparently cannot use the English language well enough to get his point across clearly in a tweet.https://twitter.com/ConceptualJames/status/1050772995931860992 …

I have sent the following email to Hypatia, asking them to publish our "Joke Is on You" paper in our right names. We may not agree with the argument we made, but we believe it is a good criticism of our project from within feminist philosophy. @HPluckrose @peterboghossian pic.twitter.com/6ShP0h9zZF

How would you say it more clearly? What is difficult exactly? I can have a go at simplification if you like.

"I sent these words to Hypatia asking them to publish the paper we wrote & put our real names on it. We don't mean the main thing we said in our paper but it is how people who do mean the main thing we said in our paper would criticise us for saying the thing without meaning it."

It's not that complicated. It's merely having followed the rules of a game while simultaneously believing those rules aren't the best depiction of reality. Mathematicians and philosophers literally do this all the time.

Indeed but that has a lot of long words in it as well.

The intended recipients have PhDs, almost literally in long words.

I know. I was simplifying for Kat, not the people you're talking to.

"We believe ours is a good *Feminist* argument, even though we believe it's an otherwise bad argument." This is probably as clear as the confusing part is going to get, and I spent way longer crafting it than anyone should have to spend on a Tweet.
