I'd actually be very interested in info on this. It might be true that men are more prone to seek women's time and space than other men's but I strongly suspect they are not nearly as prone to this as women are. I have ranted about this frequently. Insufficient data at this time. But I do think that (generalising mightily) men seem to feel entitled to encroach in a variety of ways on a woman’s personal time and space in ways they wouldn’t dream of doing with another man (and women wouldn’t dream of doing with a man).

I have pointed out to my husband that it's always me who is expected to be sociable while he is able to dogwalk, go the shops, pick up the child from school & not be expected to walk in step with or make small talk with anyone. He has pointed out that he would actually like that.

I was even the subject of an intervention from mothers at the school because I declined to join those who walked their dogs after school drop-off & went alone. Them: "You're getting a reputation for being unsociable. Why won't you walk with us?" Me: "Because I'm unsociable."

Oh God, yes. Women are the sex that get chattered AT, but by women even more than men.

In mixed gender social settings I am expected to socialize with other women. I am a tomboy and am generally more interested in and comfortable socializing with the guys, and tend to drift in that direction. When this inevitably happens women get angry and snooty towards me.

Most of my friends are female and I do tend to enjoy the way conversation flows in a group of women more than when talking to men on average. But not every woman. I prefer my own company to that of people I find dull.

I have many female as well, but just tend to get on better with men in general. The biggest factor is that not everyone enjoys small talk, and from my experience women tend to engage in it more often.
