Sorry I mean that there's more violent crime committed by known people rather than by strangers. A consistent finding from the stats I browsed.

I think context is really important here. Telling people how to protect themselves is great. Telling people that were (recently) subject of violent crime (why did you walk alone in that alley/why did you wear that provocative clothing) at least requires careful wording.
