This is a thing that really worries me about the woman-as-victim narrative. A few really lovely men on here have said to me that they didn't realise women lived their lives so afraid and it has really made them think. I don't think my friends and I are unique in not being afraid.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/1050211859306041346 …

I’m about as far from campus culture as you can get and I do similar things so I would agree it’s a cultural thing for sure. Raised in the south and Midwest and it was always just a respect thing I was taught.

I recognize that. When I walk the streets at night and accidentally find myself walking right behind a woman, I either pass her more quickly or stop to keep distance to make her feel safe. I’m a bit worried sometimes that this behaviour is interpreted as suspect.

Fascinating. I've found myself walking the same direction as a lone woman after dark. When I realise we are walking at the same pace, I often try to reasses my course or cross the street or increase my speed. I don't want to be uncomfortable or make someone else uncomfortable.

This is so habitual to me at this point. I have gone down different hallways or made bizarre walking choices away from my destination in order to avoid someone feeling uncomfortable.

My son, white, felt threatened before the 2016 election. He's 27. Helen this is awful stuff going on. I thank heavens every day Hillary didn't win!
