Everyone who wants change thinks the status quo is the thing they oppose. You seem to think the status quo in identity studies is what we advocate - reason and evidence based scholarship - while we argued it was what we criticised and then tested that with some success.https://twitter.com/elmyra/status/1049989925972652034 …

Dr Stealing your jobs, women & nuclear physicists @elmyra
Which are simply different ways of saying "because they don't fit into the status quo", "because they go counter to common sense", "because the answers might be uncomfortable", "because they expose how ideological my own position is".

And yes, the current status quo is bigoted feminist double standards (like ‘justice’ via mirrored bigotry) above evidence & objective reality. This needs changing, not because it’s “the status quo”, but because it’s bigotry & hypocrisy & doesn’t apoly its own standard to itself.

There’s a crucial distinction he’s missing in that thread. It is one thing to ask if straight men’s masturbation preferences are socially constructed. It’s another to say they are homophobic/transphobic. Another problem with grievance studies is slippage to the worst possibility.

Which is a consequence of not having a rigorous conceptual framework, and tendency to rely on emotional arguments (the most extreme category provokes the most emotion).

In other words, If they were more careful in their reasoning they could challenge the status quo of men’s masturbation habits without slipping into absurd characterizations.

“Appeal to reasonless change” is clearly a massive fallacy of some sort.

Judging something’s value by merely whether or not it’s “status quo” is the hollow reasoning of teenage hipsters. People often want to keep good, beneficial systems strong and “status quo”. Scumbags who stupidly attack “status quo” just want one that panders to their feelings.
