It doesn't make any difference to my ethics. If 95% of women in a society are against equality for women, I'm with the 5% who support it because I am not a collectivist. I am a principled liberal.

Historically, there really has been much less support for women having the same rights and responsibilities as men from both women & men. We made moral progress & now both women & men overwhelmingly support this. This isn't a men vs women thing. It's a values thing.

Women in pre-modern societies with scarce resources as opposed to men were restricted by having /taking care of children, or died / were debilitated by pregnancy and having children. Gender discrimination at that time is inextricably bound up with that fact. Am I wrong?

People talk a great deal about abortion rights as a women's issue in the US. But when you look statistically at who has more restrictive views of abortion, it is about 50% of men & 40% of women. A gap, but not a great one. One would never know it from the coverage it gets.
