It started off with valid observations and has turned to epistemological and ethical relativism and standpoint based paradigms that is full of contradictions, as inhttps://areomagazine.com/2017/02/15/the-problem-with-intersectional-feminism/ …

This article treats the concept of intersectionality as an ideology. It may be true that some people on Twitter do this as well, that does not justify treating incorrect usage as standard definition. Good argument starts with charitable reading of opposing views.

I think
@HPluckrose laid out her terms well and was consistent with most popular usage in that article, but we must disagree.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

It may be popular to use the term "classical liberalism" to mean mainstream liberalism, but it's anachronistic use of the term.

Well, the difference could simply be that you are talking about the most positive reading of some original concepts whilst others are talking about the reality of its praxis.

But if we are guided practice detached from the meaning concepts then things become relativistic and unwieldy very quickly. This is a recipe for driving division and talking past one another.

Yeah, reality is messy. We have to go with what people actually do and say when we're looking at an evolvong ideology rather than with concepts read in most charitable light.

I don't know when reading an opposing view point in its most charitable light became bad argumentative practice. I do know that doing so amplifies those who aren't being careful with definitions and concepts while spreading more heat than light.

It's not but while you are providing the most charitable reading of the foundational documents of intersectionality or Islam or Marxism or whatever, other people are dealing with the reality of ideology in practice. It still does to be charitable when talking to any individual.

But let's end this conversation on a note we might all be able to agree with. To paraphrase J.S. Mill, the person who knows only one side of the argument knows little of that: https://www.racialequitytools.org/resourcefiles/mapping-margins.pdf …

Indeed. I only discuss topics I know well. And charity is what I advocate frequently. I made this about it. It is still OK to be critical of social movements, epistemologies and ideologies tho.pic.twitter.com/hlsLpjwqtn
