There is a different sense of pride which is understood to indicate a sense of worth, belonging, identification. Like Gay Pride which does not indicate having achieved same sex desire or pride in your parents, spouse, child which does not indicate deserving credit for them.

Yeah i think "pride" gets used because people want to indicate both kinship and signal they dont fear those who arent kin. The second part is understandable but also suboptimal since it shows defensiveness to those who are also their kin (in a broader, less immediate context).
