When I see things like these, I think primarily about the way that patriarchy has normalized deeply harmful behaviors and how fruitlessly we continue in our attempts to counter these harms without making too many waves.

Patriarchy teaches us that owning people is "love." Someone is "our" man or "our" woman. It appears equitable, but it isn't. After all, men who cheat are rarely punished as brutally as the women they cheat with. Patriarchy gives men the pass. They're like that, it says.
