Have just discovered this new concept of 'micro-cheating.' It is awful. Particularly the section on whether its cheating to like other people's social media posts (2/5 if before dark, 5/5 after dark) or build platonic friendships online (4/5)https://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/article/d2eae5dd-3624-4a5e-9324-37b551315741 …

Obviously, in my circle, DMs usually abt politics & people message privately either because they have views that could get them in trouble (like gender differences existing) or coz they are not yet sure enough how they feel about a thing to put it out there & want another opinion

But this must surely be the case in nearly all circles? The article even talks about shared interests but insists they should only be discussed in the open between men & women. This isn't some neurotic religious sect. It's someone writing for the BBC citing psychologists.

The article doesn’t say that, and in fact says the opposite: “There is nothing wrong with being in touch with exes, but you should always run it by a current partner. This situation is fine if you aren’t secretly angling for a reconciliation or bored and in need of attention.”
-
That's not the section about whether it's OK to DM people.

I've replied to your tweet. This is probably micro-cheating. I'm sorry.

It's fun to look at retweets through this lens

I think this past week's counch-fainting about who said more offensive words was another confirmation of tiny minds. I don't think countries that aren't fat and spoiled have these mental issues

Because they base these attitudes on their knowledge of themselves. In their minds, the only reason they would use DMs this way, is for things they themselves would see as wrong.

My micro mind thinks it’s a microaggression to claim my replies and likes are microcheating

There is this problem in media coverage of social sciences of treating the views of 1 or 2 researchers as authoritative on a topic. No single researcher is an authority. Only overwhelming consensus of a result can be treated authoritatively
-
this word "expert" is used haphazardly in media to make authoritative claims without sufficient evidence. I see the "science, fuck yeah" liberal crowds falling for this all the time

So someone who is bisexual can't DM anyone outside their partner/family, as if they're in some kind of cult.

"X" is the unknown factor and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure. (Thanks to Rex Hunt Aussie Rules commentator but not the likely originator).
