Didn't Joss Whedon cheat on his wife? I wonder how she feels about her "oppression"?

Actual quote from his ex-wife: "He used his relationship with me as a shield … so no one would question his relationships with other women or scrutinize his writing as anything other than feminist,”

It’s a Cathy Young piece so you can assume that it’s very reasonable and lacking in phrases like “step the fuck back”

When I was young I bought the 'redressing the balance of history' line. I no longer do. HP is absolutely right on this.

I like the way you’ve put this, because a fight for equality shouldn’t be a fight for revenge

The fact that it’s Joss (cheated on my wife & had several incidents with young women working for me) Whedon making the comment makes it even more ironic

-
It's a shame Joss has made such great shows in the past. It would be much easier to ignore him if he were talentless as well as a titanic fuckhead.

Women had it bad in the past. So did men.

I think it's very revealing that someone who is supposed to be against sex-shaming is accusing his enemies of being celibate - despite the presence of their families. Which is ironical, because he had the opposite problem.

I hope you do get a chance to read it. I like it that she explains the appeal of Peterson which I find so curious & important to examine. I don't think she totally reasoned out the feminist viewpoint she critiques--she might have given examples of feminist extremism to illustrate
-
I despise Peterson *as a philosopher* but I liked the piece. There’s no doubt he’s got tremendous appeal to disaffected young men, and it’s worth trying to figure out why. Cathy Young does a nice job of being succinct about it.
-
It’s hilarious (sad, actually) how many of his critics will reflexively bash anything that seems to support him, since they’ve labeled him as “wrong team.” I see little praise of Peterson in the piece, just an admonition to his opponents to provide something more compelling.

Why can’t people in the UK read LA Times articles, but I can in Australia. Who’s doing the blocking I wonder?
-
The LA Times blocked EU residents from reading their articles due to the GDPR.
-
As a protest?
-
No. More of a legal thing from what I can tell.
-
Interesting. I wonder how many other US sites are restricted in Europe. This is the first & only one I’ve seen multiple people comment on. Thanks for your input

Glad someone is criticising
