But defenders of freedom of speech aren't suggesting ppl should have it at work. There, you need to talk & think about the stuff you're getting paid to talk & think about. On your own time, shld be able to express any ideas w/out punishment (NB: 'Go fuck yourself' isn't an idea)https://twitter.com/FattMernandez/status/1001551247042842624 …

Interesting point, I hadn't considered that aspect.

In America I presume they can? I wonder what the rules on that are here?

I'm not sure. I'm against banning things but I think, ethically, if an organisation wanted to make this part of its day, there should be an opt out

The rule adopted by the NFL strikes a reasonable compromise, in my opinion. Players are no longer required to be on the field during the anthem, but those who choose to be are expected to observe NFL guidelines.http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000933962/article/roger-goodells-statement-on-national-anthem-policy …

Just quickly Tarzanning by this thread and wondered how this would apply to poppies and minute silences etc at work..? *Jungle call fading into the distance* -watch out for the...oh

I know employers can choose to forbid you wearing poppies, as there was a court case about it. Not sure about the other way around.
